On Wednesday, March 18, 2026, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, presented cheques totaling ₦2.435 billion to 1,075 beneficiaries and next-of-kin of police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
The presentation, held at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Abuja, was part of the Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare Schemes.
The funds cover multiple policy years, including 2018/2019, 2020/2021, 2021/2022, 2022/2023, 2024/2025, and 2025/2026, and include outstanding claims from previous years.
Speaking at the event, Force Insurance Officer ACP Lydia Ameh said the disbursement underscores IGP Disu’s commitment to the welfare of officers and their families.
She noted that decisive steps have been taken to enforce compliance by insurance providers and prevent delays in claims settlement, ensuring officers’ families receive their entitlements promptly and transparently.

IGP Disu described the ceremony as a solemn recognition of the sacrifices made by officers who died serving the nation.
He emphasized that the initiative goes beyond financial support, reflecting the Force’s enduring commitment to honour the courage and dedication of fallen officers while providing for their families.
The IGP also pledged to strengthen welfare frameworks, improve administrative efficiency, and eliminate bottlenecks in benefit disbursement.
He said the Force would harness modern technology to streamline claims processing, enhance transparency, and ensure accountability in welfare administration.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its dedication to the welfare of its personnel and the families of deceased officers, noting that their sacrifices are invaluable to the country’s peace, security, and stability.
