IGP Egbetokun Rolls Out Six Mobile Force Squadrons To Boost Policing

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on Thursday, February 19, 2026, announced the creation of six additional Mobile Force squadrons across Nigeria, aimed at enhancing operational readiness, intelligence gathering, and overall policing effectiveness nationwide.

The announcement was made during remarks in Abuja while receiving members of the Committee of Retired Inspectors‑General of Police at his office, Louis Edet House.

The new units, strategically positioned in key states, are part of the Nigeria Police Force’s ongoing efforts to strengthen rapid response capabilities, tackle crime efficiently, and improve community safety.

Speaking at the announcement, IG Egbetokun emphasized that the expansion would allow for quicker deployment in emergencies, more robust intelligence operations, and heightened security presence in vulnerable areas.

“The establishment of these additional Mobile Force squadrons is a crucial step in our mission to ensure the safety and security of all Nigerians. We are committed to proactive policing, rapid intervention, and effective crime prevention across the country,” Egbetokun stated.

Police sources confirmed that each squadron will be equipped with modern vehicles, communication systems, and operational tools to support both urban and rural policing needs.

Officers assigned to these units will undergo specialized training to enhance their effectiveness in diverse operational scenarios.

Security analysts note that the move aligns with broader national strategies to combat organized crime, banditry, and insurgency while reinforcing public confidence in the police.
