INEC Mourns Death of Press Corps Cameraman Sunday Olatuyi

In a formal announcement released this Sunday, the 21st of December, 2025, tthe Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) expressed deep sorrow regarding the tragic death of Sunday Olatuyi, a 40-year-old cameraman with ADBN Television.

Olatuyi, who was a prominent figure within the INEC Press Corps (IPC), passed away on Saturday, the 20th following a catastrophic traffic accident.

Reports indicate he was struck by a fast-moving vehicle on the Airport Road in the Lugbe area of Abuja as he was commuting home after finishing his day’s work.

Adedayo Oketola, the Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to the INEC Chairman, issued a statement mourning the loss of a professional known for his unwavering commitment to his craft.

Reflecting on the tragedy, Oketola stated: “It is with a heavy heart and profound sadness that we received the news of the tragic passing of Mr Sunday Olatuyi, a dedicated cameraman with ADBN Television and a valued member of the INEC Press Corps,” he said.

“Mr Olatuyi lost his life in a fatal automobile accident while on his way home, a journey that ended far too soon for a man who was not just a cameraman, but a committed professional who played a vital role in covering the activities of the Commission.

The Commission formally extended its sympathies to the bereaved, specifically mentioning the leadership of Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN.

“On behalf of the Honourable Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, we extend our deepest condolences to the Olatunji family, ADBN Television, and the entire Press Corps. We share in your grief and pray for the strength to bear this irreplaceable loss.

“As we mourn Mr Olatuyi, we pray that Almighty God grants all members of the Press Corps divine protection and preserves your lives as you continue to serve the nation.

“May the soul of Mr Olatunji rest in perfect peace.”
