The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that voter registration for four local government areas in Borno State will now take place in Maiduguri instead of their original locations, citing security concerns.
Borno Resident Electoral Commissioner, Abubakar Ahmad, made the disclosure on Thursday, August 14, during a press briefing to flag off the 2025–2026 Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
He said the affected LGAs are Abadam, Guzamala, Kala-Balge and Marte.
According to him, new registration points have been set up within Maiduguri to serve residents from these areas.
Abadam voters will now register at Baga Road, Guzamala’s centre will operate from the Fire Service Department in 1,000 Housing Estate, Kala-Balge’s will be at Goni Kachalari Primary School, and Marte’s will be located in Kachamai.
The CVR exercise will run for 12 months in three phases, starting August 18, 2025, and ending August 30, 2026.

Phase one begins with online pre-registration on August 18, followed by in-person registration from August 25. After that, both processes will run side by side.
INEC has provided two portals, www.cvr.inec.gov.ng and www.cvr.inecnigeria.org, where eligible Nigerians can start their registration, book appointments, and later complete the process physically at designated centres.
Physical registration will take place from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm on weekdays, excluding public holidays. INEC also promised special arrangements for persons with disabilities.
Services include registering first-time voters aged 18 and above, replacing lost or damaged PVCs, transferring voter details for those who relocated, collecting unclaimed PVCs from past exercises, and updating records for voters whose cards failed verification in previous elections.
Ahmad urged all eligible citizens, especially those affected by the relocation, to take full advantage of the exercise.
