The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has appealed to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for stronger surveillance and protection of its facilities nationwide following repeated cases of theft and vandalism.
According to the JAMB Bulletin, the appeal was made during a meeting involving NSCDC officials, JAMB zonal directors, state coordinators, and heads of professional test centres.
Mufutau Bello, Director at the Registrar’s Office, revealed that despite placing security responsibilities under the NSCDC, the board continues to suffer breaches at critical facilities.
He stressed the need for improved collaboration to strengthen surveillance and ensure 24-hour protection.
“We had earlier engaged private security outfits before Professor Oloyede assumed leadership, but later handed over fully to the NSCDC. Sadly, we are still facing vandalism and theft at some of our facilities,” Bello said, adding that JAMB has concluded plans to provide additional equipment such as raincoats and boots to aid the corps in its duties.
On his part, Chidebe Achunine, Director of the Special Duties Department, cited the destruction of assets at JAMB’s Benin zonal office, Kebbi office, and the Professional Test Centre in Osogbo as evidence of the urgent need for vigilance. He noted that the board had already issued a security advisory on August 20, 2025, following the breaches.
Achunine explained that the meeting was designed to chart a collective security strategy, urging the NSCDC to keep JAMB directors and state coordinators fully briefed on developments across the country.

He highlighted the importance of proper documentation, clear reporting channels, and engagement with local communities.
Reaffirming the corps’ commitment, Nda Ali Ibrahim, NSCDC desk officer at JAMB, said the agency would continue to work with stakeholders to safeguard lives, property, and critical infrastructure.
He, however, called for additional support in the form of better allowances for operatives, installation of CCTV cameras, perimeter fencing, lighting equipment, and increased manpower.
