Chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) across the 27 Local Government Areas of Jigawa State have unanimously passed a vote of confidence in the leadership of the party’s state chairman, Babandi Gumel, as well as former governor and national figure of the party, Sule Lamido.
The declaration comes against the backdrop of lingering leadership disputes at the national level of the party, where rival factions have continued to jostle for control and push for changes in the PDP’s leadership structure. In response to these developments, the Jigawa PDP chairmen moved to clearly state their position and reaffirm their loyalty to the party’s leadership in the state.
Recall that the PDP Board of Trustees on Friday, announced the suspension of Lamido over allegations of anti-party activities and inflammatory remarks made during recent internal crises within the party. The endorsement by the Jigawa chairmen is therefore widely regarded as a significant boost to Lamido’s political standing, particularly amid opposition he has faced from some factions within the PDP.
The chairmen made their position public during a special meeting held on Tuesday, the 6th of January, 2026, at the party’s state secretariat in Dutse.
Speaking on behalf of the chairmen, the Chairman of the Dutse Local Government Chapter and Forum Chairman, Sa’adu Barwa, said the group remained resolute in its commitment to the PDP and its leadership in Jigawa State. He stressed that the chairmen had collectively resolved not to be distracted or influenced by the ongoing leadership crisis at the national level.
He further explained that the PDP chairmen in Jigawa State were reaffirming their allegiance to the party and its leadership, assuring members that they would remain steadfast despite the challenges confronting the party.
Barwa urged party members to remain calm, united and focused, noting that the strength and success of the PDP would depend largely on collective effort and internal cohesion. He added that the chairmen were confident the party would overcome its present challenges and emerge stronger.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Hadejia Local Government Area and Vice Chairman of the forum, Adamu Muhd, described the vote of confidence as a clear demonstration of the chairmen’s loyalty to the PDP and its leadership.

Earlier, the PDP state chairman, Babandi Gumel, expressed appreciation to the local government chairmen for their show of support and pledged to continue steering the party toward electoral success in the state. Represented at the meeting by his deputy, Umar Danjani, the chairman reaffirmed the importance of the loyalty demonstrated by the chairmen.
