PDP Leadership Meets Jonathan as Party Seeks Unity Amid Deepening Crisis

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Tanimu Turaki (SAN), on Tuesday held a closed-door meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan amid ongoing efforts to address internal party challenges and broader national concerns.

The high-level meeting took place at Jonathan’s office in Maitama, Abuja, where Turaki arrived around 5:45 p.m., accompanied by the full PDP NWC and a select number of state party chairmen. The delegation reportedly arrived in a convoy of six SUV vehicles, underscoring the significance of the engagement.

Sources within the party disclosed that discussions focused on the protracted crisis rocking the PDP, strategies to reposition and stabilise the party, and pressing national issues requiring political consensus and leadership intervention.

Jonathan, a former PDP president and one of the party’s most influential figures, is widely regarded as a moral authority within the party. Party insiders say the visit reflects a renewed effort by the current leadership to seek guidance, rebuild trust, and foster unity ahead of future political contests.

Although details of the meeting remain undisclosed, the engagement signals growing concern within the PDP hierarchy over internal divisions that have weakened the party’s cohesion and public standing in recent months.

The outcome of the meeting is expected to shape the PDP’s next steps as it works to reclaim its footing as a viable opposition force and restore confidence among its members and supporters nationwide.
