A former Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Jumoke Akinjide, has resigned her membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ending more than two decades of political affiliation with the party.
Akinjide announced her resignation in a letter dated Monday and addressed to the PDP Ward 1 Chairman in Ona-Ara Local Government Area of Oyo State. In the letter, she stated that the decision followed a prolonged period of personal reflection.
“This decision was not taken lightly, given the fact that I have been a member of the party since 2001,” she wrote, adding that her resignation takes immediate effect.
She expressed gratitude to the party for the opportunities it provided over the years, noting that her time within the PDP allowed her to build valuable relationships and gain significant political experience.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to have been a member of the party and for the experience and relationships built during my time,” she said, while wishing the party success in its future endeavours.

Her resignation was confirmed by a close associate, Kehinde Olaosebikan, a former chairman of Oluyole Local Government Area, who described the development as accurate.
Akinjide served as Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory between 2011 and 2015 under former President Goodluck Jonathan.
During her tenure, she also briefly held the position of Supervising Minister for Police Affairs in 2014.
Prior to her ministerial appointment, she held several roles within the presidency, including Special Assistant on Federal Capital Territory Matters and later on G77 Matters and Nigerians in the Diaspora.
Her exit from the PDP adds to a series of political shifts within Nigeria’s opposition landscape, as alignments and realignments continue ahead of future electoral contests.
Observers say her next political move remains uncertain, as she has not yet indicated any new party affiliation or future plans.
