The Kaduna State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of veteran photojournalist Umar Usman in Chikun Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson Mansir Hassan told the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday that security operatives have commenced efforts to rescue Usman. “We are trying our best to rescue him unhurt,” he said.
According to Hassan, Usman was abducted at about 9:00 p.m. on Monday by suspected bandits in Danhonu II community, Millennium City, an incident that has sparked fear among residents.

Usman, a retired staff member of Africa Independent Television’s Kaduna Station and a former Nigerian Television Authority staff member in Kaduna, was reportedly taken from his residence during the attack.
Hassan said the Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, had immediately deployed a team to track down the abductors and secure the journalist’s safe release. He appealed to residents to provide credible information that could assist in the rescue operation.
