Kano State has welcomed back conjoined twins Hassana and Hussaina following a successful separation surgery in Saudi Arabia.
The twins were flown to King Abdullah Specialist Children’s Hospital, King Abdulaziz Medical City, Riyadh, in October 2023 under a Saudi humanitarian medical programme.
The complex 14-hour operation was performed by a team of specialists led by Dr. Abdullah Al‑Rabeeah, Advisor to the Saudi Royal Court and Supervisor-General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center.
On Friday, September 12, 2025, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf received the twins and their family at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, commending both the Saudi medical team and Nigerian authorities for ensuring world-class care.
The twins’ parents expressed deep gratitude, describing the moment of reunion as “overwhelming and joyous.”
They thanked the Kano State Government, the Saudi medical team, and all Nigerians who followed their journey for their support.

Officials said the girls would continue receiving follow-up care in Kano, ensuring their full recovery and adjustment to independent lives.
Hassana and Hussaina were born conjoined in Kano State, a rare condition that left them physically connected in a way that limited mobility and daily independence.
The family struggled to access advanced medical care locally, prompting intervention from international humanitarian and medical organizations.
Their successful separation marks a major milestone in pediatric surgery and highlights the benefits of global medical cooperation.
The twins’ safe return has been widely celebrated, with many Nigerians praising the collaboration that gave them the opportunity to lead healthier, independent lives.
