Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, inaugurated a multi-agency task force to coordinate the state’s campaign against drug abuse and signed an Executive Order to tackle thuggery and related criminal activities. The governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Tofa, disclosed this in a statement.
Yusuf described drug abuse as a major threat to Kano’s youth, warning that it fuels violent crime, destroys families, weakens the economy and threatens social stability.
He said the task force would coordinate intelligence gathering, enforcement, public enlightenment, rehabilitation and collaboration with security agencies and other stakeholders.
The governor pledged funding, vehicles, office accommodation, logistics and security support for the task force, while assuring members of the independence required to perform their duties.

Yusuf also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to expanding rehabilitation services for drug abuse victims, noting that separate centres had been established for male and female patients.
He said the Executive Order on thuggery would strengthen efforts to dismantle criminal gangs, curb political violence and support security agencies in maintaining law and order.
The task force chairman, Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, pledged to work with security agencies, traditional and religious leaders, civil society organisations, educational institutions and communities to combat drug abuse and promote peace.
Yusuf urged residents to provide credible information and cooperate with security agencies, stressing that the fight against drug abuse and thuggery required collective action.
He expressed confidence that the new measures would help reduce drug-related crime and improve security across Kano State.
