Kano Govt Gives Inmates 15 Cows, Food Items For Eid-el-Kabir

The Kano State Government has donated 15 cows and food items to inmates in correctional centres across the state as part of activities marking the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

The items were presented on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, in Kano by the Chairperson of the Kano State Committee for the Prerogative of Mercy, Hajiya Azumi Namadi-Bebeji.

The donation comprised 115 bags of 50kg rice, 40 jerry cans of 25kg vegetable oil and assorted soup ingredients for inmates in custodial facilities across the state.

Namadi-Bebeji said the intervention reflected Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf’s commitment to the welfare, rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates.

She said the administration remained focused on humane policies and social support programmes aimed at restoring hope and dignity to vulnerable persons, including those in correctional centres.

According to her, the gesture was also intended to enable inmates celebrate Eid-el-Kabir with a sense of belonging.

She urged them to continue praying for peace, unity and progress in Kano State and Nigeria.

Receiving the items, the Controller of the Nigeria Correctional Service, Kano State Command, Ahmed Yusuf-Lakpene, commended the state government for its continued support for inmate welfare.

He said the donation would boost inmates’ morale and make the Sallah celebration more meaningful for them.

Yusuf-Lakpene also reaffirmed the commitment of the correctional service to the rehabilitation and reformation of inmates in line with global best practices.
