Kanu’s Wife Accuses Lawyers of Failing to Inform Her on Prison Transfer

Uchechi Okwu-Kanu, wife of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Nnamdi Kanu, has criticised her husband’s legal team for not informing her of his transfer to a correctional facility in Sokoto.

On Thursday, a federal high court in Abuja sentenced Kanu to life imprisonment.

Following the ruling, Aloy Ejimakor, counsel to Kanu, announced on Friday that he had been moved from the Department of State Services (DSS) custody in Abuja to the Sokoto facility.

“MAZI NNAMDI KANU has just been moved from DSS Abuja to the correctional facility in Sokoto; so far away from his lawyers, family, loved ones and well-wishers,” Ejimakor wrote on X.

Okwu-Kanu said she only learned of the transfer about three hours after her husband’s arrival at the facility.

She expressed concern that some individuals who visited Kanu earlier failed to inform her of the move.

The relocation has intensified concerns over access to Kanu for both family and legal representatives, underscoring ongoing tensions surrounding his detention.
