The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed that 44 people were killed in coordinated attacks on communities in Shanga Local Government Area, with authorities launching a statewide security operation to prevent further violence.
The attacks, which occurred earlier in the affected villages including Gebe, Kalkami, Kawara, Kasoshi, Awaye, Tungar Rini, Binuwa and Dabe, raising fresh concerns over security in rural and border communities.
In a statement issued on Friday, April 10, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer, Bashir Usman, said the command had commenced a clearance operation across the state on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.
He said the operation is aimed at preventing further attacks and tackling banditry through sustained deployments and targeted enforcement measures.
According to the police, security personnel have been deployed in large numbers to affected areas, working alongside other agencies, with what officials described as a gradual return of calm.

The operation is focusing on high-risk locations such as forests, farmlands, border communities and remote settlements, and includes coordinated patrols, intelligence-led stop-and-search operations and joint security actions.
Police also confirmed the recovery of two AK-47 rifles along the Illo–Kamba axis during the operation, attributing the seizure to ongoing intelligence-driven efforts.
The Commissioner of Police, Umar Hadejia, urged residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies with timely and credible information.
He also called on traditional rulers, community leaders, religious groups and youth organisations to back ongoing efforts to restore peace and strengthen security across the state.
Authorities said investigations into the attacks are ongoing, with efforts underway to identify and apprehend those responsible.
