Kogi State is in mourning following the deaths of three senior chieftains of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the state government confirmed on Monday, January 12, 2026.
The deceased are:
• Hon. Onojah James Ignatius, Special Adviser to the Governor and former Chairman of Igalamela Local Government Area
• Hon. Jatto Onimisi Suleiman, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor
• Alhaji Alih Atabo, Chairman of the APC in Anyigba Ward, Dekina Local Government Area
In a statement, the government described the trio as distinguished public servants who served with dedication, loyalty, and commitment to both the party and the state.
Hon. Ignatius was recognised for his expertise in grassroots mobilisation and administration, Suleiman for his diligence and sense of responsibility, and Atabo for his steadfast devotion to the growth and unity of the APC at the grassroots level.

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and the state government extended heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and associates of the deceased, as well as to the APC family across Kogi State.
The communities of Igalamela, Okene, and Dekina were also acknowledged for being positively impacted by the work of the late leaders.
While the circumstances of their deaths remain undisclosed, the government said the legacies of the trio would continue to inspire public service, governance, and political engagement across the state.
