The vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, has welcomed a fresh batch of defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) into the party in Kano State.
The former Kano State governor received the new members from Madobi Local Government Area during a gathering on Sunday, describing their decision to join the NDC as a boost to the party’s growing political strength ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Announcing the development on his official X account, Kwankwaso expressed satisfaction with the defections and assured the newcomers of equal opportunities within the party.
He said the defectors would be fully integrated into the NDC and promised that they would enjoy fair treatment and meaningful participation in the party’s activities.
Kwankwaso also maintained that the NDC remains focused on strengthening its structure across the country, adding that the party is making steady progress without significant internal challenges.

Images shared from the event showed the former governor addressing a large gathering of supporters from an elevated platform.
Dressed in his trademark white traditional attire and red-and-white cap, Kwankwaso spoke alongside the NDC’s Kano Central Senatorial candidate, Nasiru Gawuna.
Supporters, many wearing the signature red caps associated with the Kwankwasiyya movement, turned out in large numbers, waving and cheering during the reception.
The latest defections are expected to bolster the NDC’s political base in Kano, one of Nigeria’s key electoral states, as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 polls.
