Kwankwaso Threatens N10bn Suit Against Ayodele Over Alleged Defamatory Remarks

Former Kano State Governor and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has demanded the withdrawal of comments made by INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church founder, Primate Elijah Ayodele, which he says are damaging to his reputation.

In a letter dated June 11, 2026, issued through his lawyers, Magaji Mato Ibrahim, SAN & Co., Kwankwaso challenged remarks allegedly made by the cleric during a church broadcast questioning his loyalty to NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

The legal team said the comments falsely portrayed Kwankwaso as an unreliable political ally and were capable of damaging his standing among party members, associates and the public.

According to the lawyers, the statements have attracted widespread attention and could fuel distrust within the party ahead of the 2027 general election.

They demanded a public retraction, an apology through the same platforms that circulated the remarks, and an undertaking that no similar statements would be made in future.

Ayodele was given 24 hours to comply, failing which Kwankwaso would initiate legal proceedings seeking N10 billion in damages and other reliefs.

The dispute has intensified debate around the NDC ticket, placing renewed focus on the political alliance between Obi and Kwankwaso.
