The Kwara State Government has scrapped the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) levy in all public primary schools and introduced yearly grants to support school operations across the state.
Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Prof. Shehu Adaramaja, made this known at the bid opening ceremony for the 2024 third and fourth quarters UBEC/SUBEB intervention projects held in Ilorin.
He said the decision aims to relieve parents of extra financial pressure while guaranteeing that each school receives direct financial backing from the government. “The state government will now provide running costs for all 1,717 public primary schools in Kwara State,” he said.
Prof. Adaramaja highlighted that the intervention projects cover several areas, including building new classroom blocks with offices and toilets, renovating old structures, drilling solar-powered boreholes, upgrading digital literacy centers, and supplying basic learning materials.

He added that part of the initiative includes fabricating and distributing two-seater furniture for pupils, as well as implementing the Safe Schools Initiative in selected local government areas.
The SUBEB chairman revealed that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq had already approved the payment of the 2025 counterpart funds for UBEC/SUBEB projects.
He also issued a stern warning to contractors handling the projects, urging them to follow specifications closely, stressing that the government will not condone poor-quality work.
