The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has urged any alleged survivor to come forward amid growing public calls for an investigation into popular Nigerian singer Simi over resurfaced social media posts.
Speaking on Channels Television on Thursday, the Executive Secretary of the agency, Lola Vivour-Adeniyi, stressed that prosecution would be impossible without a formal complaint from an alleged victim.
“It is going to be very difficult to prosecute Simi without a survivor being present,” Vivour-Adeniyi said during the interview.
“To start the process, we encourage anybody who was allegedly sexually assaulted by Simi to please come forward and ensure that their statement is taken.”
The comments follow renewed online debate after old tweets attributed to the singer resurfaced, prompting some social media users to demand an official probe.

However, no individual has publicly filed a complaint or provided a formal statement to authorities as of press time.
Vivour-Adeniyi explained that while public discourse may raise awareness, the criminal justice process requires specific procedural steps, including statements from complainants and verifiable evidence.
She reiterated that the agency remains available to provide confidential support and guidance to any survivor willing to report.
The DSVA is responsible for coordinating responses to domestic and sexual violence cases in Lagos State, ensuring that survivors receive legal, medical, and psychosocial assistance.
As the controversy continues to trend online, the agency’s appeal underscores the importance of due process, cautioning against trial by social media while encouraging lawful reporting mechanisms for serious allegations.
