Lagos APC Accuses Opposition of Politicizing #FreeNnamdiKanu Protests

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused opposition politicians of orchestrating the ongoing #FreeNnamdiKanu protests across parts of the country, describing the demonstrations as politically motivated and deceptive.

In a statement issued on Monday, the party’s spokesperson, Mogaji Seye Oladejo, dismissed the protests as a “dangerous display of reckless politics,” alleging that opposition figures were exploiting national sentiments to stir unrest.

According to Oladejo, the protests are “the hand of Jacob and the voice of Esau,” symbolizing what he called a deceitful political maneuver disguised as a call for justice.

“This so-called protest is not about justice; it is about political frustration. It represents the height of bitter, destructive politics by those who have been rejected by Nigerians at the polls,” the statement read.

Oladejo accused some opposition leaders of sponsoring the agitations to regain relevance, warning that “they will not gain in the streets what they have disgracefully lost at the polls.”

He further described the protests as insensitive to the plight of citizens in the South East, who, according to him, have endured years of hardship caused by violent agitations and insecurity.

“At a time when the South East is still bleeding from kidnappings and enforced sit-at-home orders, these individuals have chosen to mock the memories of victims and exploit their pain for political gain,” he said.

The APC spokesperson maintained that Nnamdi Kanu’s case remains a judicial matter, emphasizing that Nigeria’s courts are capable of handling it without external interference or “mob pressure.”

He also reiterated the party’s support for President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda,” which he said is aimed at rebuilding the economy, fostering unity, and promoting inclusivity, especially among citizens from the South East.

“True progress will come not from chaos, but from cooperation and peace,” Oladejo noted.

The Lagos APC called on security agencies to stay alert and urged Nigerians—particularly leaders in the South East—to reject what it termed “the antics of those who traffic in bitterness.”

“There must indeed be a limit to bitter politics,” the statement concluded.
