Lagos Begins 2026 BECE Electronic Registration Exercise

The Lagos State Government has rolled out plans for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) electronic registration and payment process, covering both public and private junior secondary schools across the state.

The digital exercise, overseen by the Lagos State Examinations Board (LSEB), is slated to take place between Monday, the 26th of January and Friday, the 27th of March, 2026.

According to the government, the initiative is designed to automate the registration process, remove the need for school administrators to visit the board physically, and promote greater efficiency, openness and accountability in examination administration.

Information on the exercise was disclosed via an official announcement published on the state government’s verified X handle on Tuesday, the 20th of January, 2026.

“The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Examinations Board, has commenced the 2026 BECE e-registration and payment exercise, which will run from January 26 to March 27, 2026,” the statement said.

Authorities noted that the move aligns with the state’s ongoing efforts to deploy technology in reforming public sector operations, particularly in the education system, to make processes faster and more transparent for stakeholders.

In a related briefing, the Registrar of the LSEB, Mr Adebayo Orunsolu, advised schools to ensure they register candidates using their newly assigned School Codes.
He explained that public junior secondary schools are expected to download and utilise the Offline Data Capturing Application available on bece.examsboard.lagosstate.gov.ng to complete their registration process.

Orunsolu further stated that approved private junior secondary schools, institutions operating under special permission, and continuing education centres are to carry out payments, candidate registration and login generation through the board’s portal at pay.examsboard.com.ng.

He added that a registration fee of N10,000 per candidate applies to approved private schools and public continuing education centres, while private schools with special permission and private continuing education centres are required to pay N15,000 per candidate.

The registrar also urged schools enrolling candidates with special needs, such as visual impairments or albinism, to formally inform the board early enough to allow for proper arrangements ahead of the examination.

The board cautioned that delays in registration may result in penalties, stressing that any additional instructions would be relayed to schools through designated zonal officers to guarantee strict adherence to the guidelines.
