The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has announced a 24-hour traffic management operation ahead of the 2026 festive season, targeting increased movement and congestion across the state.
LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, announced the plan on Sunday, October 4, 2026, saying personnel and specialised response teams would be deployed to major interchanges, bridges, arterial routes, transport terminals, commercial areas and other traffic pressure points.
The operation will rely on real-time monitoring and targeted traffic control, with priority given to crashes, vehicle breakdowns, illegal parking, indiscriminate loading and off-loading and other road obstructions.
Bakare-Oki said crashed and disabled vehicles would be cleared promptly, while diversions and temporary traffic controls would be introduced where necessary to prevent incidents from triggering prolonged gridlock.
The initiative builds on LASTMA’s expanded festive-season operations in 2025, when the agency introduced round-the-clock traffic management on major corridors. In December, it reported deploying 1,700 officers for 24-hour monitoring, including coverage of the Ikoyi, Victoria Island and Lekki-Ajah axes.

For the 2026 operation, LASTMA will coordinate with the Nigeria Police Force, Federal Road Safety Corps, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Lagos Ambulance Service Agency, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, transport unions and other stakeholders on traffic control, emergency response and accident evacuation.
Bakare-Oki urged motorists, commercial transport operators, articulated-vehicle and tanker drivers to obey traffic rules and avoid speeding, reckless overtaking, driving against traffic, illegal parking and indiscriminate loading.
Motorists travelling long distances were advised to check their brakes, tyres, lights and other critical components before departure.
Road users can report crashes, breakdowns and obstructions through LASTMA’s toll-free 3367 hotline.
Bakare-Oki assured Lagos residents and visitors that LASTMA would maintain heightened operations to support safe and efficient movement throughout the Ember Months and festive season.
