Football icon Lionel Messi has donated €80,000 (about $92,000) towards the reconstruction of communities affected by devastating wildfires in Sierra Oeste de Madrid, Spain.
The donation, announced on August 4, 2026, by Community of Madrid President Isabel Díaz Ayuso, will support recovery efforts in the region, where the fires caused widespread damage to land, homes and local infrastructure.
Ayuso thanked the former Barcelona captain for the gesture, describing it as a show of solidarity with residents affected by the disaster.

The wildfire, which struck areas west of the Spanish capital, forced evacuations and left communities facing the difficult task of rebuilding.
Authorities have since shifted focus from emergency response to restoring damaged areas and assisting affected families.
Messi’s contribution adds to his long record of humanitarian work. Through the Leo Messi Foundation, established in 2007, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner has supported initiatives focused on children’s health, education and sport.
The donation further highlights Messi’s continued involvement in charitable causes beyond football, using his global influence to support communities in times of need.
