LIRS Extends Tax Filing Deadline Again, Sets April 21 Cut-Off

The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has extended the deadline for filing individual annual income tax returns to April 21, 2026, citing increased traffic on its electronic tax platform.

The extension was announced in a statement signed by the agency’s Head of Corporate Communications, Monsurat Amasa-Oyelude, who said the decision followed a surge in usage of the LIRS eTax portal as taxpayers rushed to meet the earlier deadline.

According to the agency, the heavy traffic temporarily affected access for some users, making the extension necessary to give eligible taxpayers adequate time to complete their filings without disruption.

The adjustment follows an initial directive issued on February 25, 2026, when LIRS fixed March 31, 2026, as the deadline for filing annual tax returns for the 2026 assessment year.

The deadline was later extended to April 14, 2026, before the latest shift to April 21, 2026.

LIRS said the extension is aimed at easing compliance pressure, improving user experience on its digital platform, and ensuring accuracy in submissions while maintaining regulatory standards.

The agency reiterated that filing annual income tax returns remains a statutory obligation for all eligible taxpayers in Lagos State.

It also stressed that submissions must be made exclusively through its official eTax platform, https://etax.lirs.net, which remains the only approved channel.

Executive Chairman of LIRS, Ayodele Subair, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to strengthening digital tax administration and improving efficiency in revenue collection across the state.
