Residents of Maiduguri and nearby communities in Borno State are facing a four-day power outage as maintenance work gets underway at the Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant.
The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO), in a statement, said the blackout, which began on Thursday, November 6, will continue until Sunday, November 9, 2025.
The agency explained that the shutdown is part of routine maintenance to boost the reliability and efficiency of the generation facility that powers Maiduguri and its environs.
The Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) confirmed the development, saying the work involves a scheduled inspection of the gas turbine under a long-term service agreement with the equipment manufacturer.

Power supply in Maiduguri has been unstable for years, largely due to frequent vandalism of high-voltage transmission lines that connect the North-East to the national grid.
The Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant was set up as an alternative source to keep electricity running in the city following repeated grid disruptions caused by insecurity and damage to infrastructure.
NISO appealed to residents and businesses for patience during the maintenance period, assuring that supply will be restored once the work is completed.
