Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, on Sunday, April 12, 2026, pushed back against allegations by former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, that there are plans to remove the monarch from the throne.
Fayose had, in a post on his X handle, claimed that the Oyo State Government was preparing to begin a process that could lead to Ladoja’s removal, allegedly over his absence at the coronation of some high chiefs in Ibadanland about two weeks earlier, among other unspecified issues.
But responses from both the state government and the Olubadan’s palace were swift and unequivocal, dismissing the claim as unfounded.
Speaking through his media aide, Adeola Oloko, the Olubadan said there was no strain in relations between the palace and the state government to justify such speculation.

He described the allegation as a rumor with no basis in fact, noting that the monarch and the governor maintain a cordial working relationship.
In a separate reaction, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, said the state government had neither contemplated nor discussed any move to remove the traditional ruler.
He characterised the claim as politically motivated and devoid of credibility, insisting that no such action had been considered at any level of government.
According to him, governance decisions are guided by clear and legitimate considerations, none of which apply in the scenario described.
As of press time, there is no indication of any disagreement between the Oyo State Government and the Olubadan-in-Council.
