Many Feared Trapped As Three-Storey Building Collapses In Rivers

A three-storey building under construction has collapsed in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, trapping an unspecified number of workers beneath the rubble.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, behind Eternal Filling Station, opposite Chief Sam Ngbor Avenue, off the busy Peter Odili Road.

Construction workers were reportedly on site when the structure suddenly gave way, prompting panic among residents and passersby.

Eyewitnesses said several workers were trapped following the collapse and appealed for an urgent emergency response.

Officials of relevant emergency and security agencies arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and immediately commenced rescue operations.

The spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Command confirmed the development, stating that two persons had been rescued from the rubble and taken to a hospital for treatment.

She added that rescue efforts were ongoing to determine whether more people remained trapped beneath the collapsed structure.

The cause of the building collapse remains unknown as investigations continue.

No fatalities had been confirmed as of the time of filing this report. Rescue teams remain at the scene working to locate and evacuate any remaining victims.
