Meta has rolled out paid subscription services for Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, marking a major shift for platforms that have operated as free services for years.
The premium tiers, launched on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, introduce exclusive features aimed at boosting personalization, analytics and user engagement across the apps.
Facebook Plus and Instagram Plus will cost $3.99 monthly, while WhatsApp Plus is priced at $2.99.
In Nigeria, the subscriptions are expected to average about N5,500 for Facebook and Instagram and about N4,200 for WhatsApp.
Subscribers on Facebook and Instagram will gain access to advanced story insights, spotlight stories, extended story visibility beyond 24 hours, custom reactions and the ability to view stories privately without appearing on viewers’ lists.

WhatsApp Plus users will receive premium themes, custom ringtones, upgraded stickers and additional pinned chats.
Meta said the subscriptions form part of a broader expansion under a new ecosystem called “Meta One,” which will also include premium AI, creator and business tools.
The move comes as Meta pushes to diversify revenue beyond advertising and deepen investment in artificial intelligence.
Industry analysts describe the rollout as one of the company’s biggest business changes since its acquisitions of Instagram in 2012 and WhatsApp in 2014.
Despite the paid rollout, Meta confirmed that the standard versions of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp will remain free worldwide.
