Kogi APC Suspends Senator Echocho Over Alleged Party Disloyalty

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Odu Ward 2, Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, has suspended Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho over alleged anti-party activities.

The decision was reached at a Ward Executive Committee meeting held on Tuesday, after party leaders reviewed accusations that the senator’s conduct undermined party unity and interests in Kogi East.

Officials alleged that Echocho, who represents Kogi East Senatorial District, had maintained contact with opposition figures and was allegedly exploring a political realignment following internal disagreements within the party.

He was also accused of pursuing personal political ambitions considered inconsistent with the APC’s position in the district, including claims of a third-term agenda that has reportedly fueled tensions within the party structure.

The ward executives further faulted his grassroots performance, alleging that despite two terms in the Senate, he failed to deliver his polling unit for the APC in the 2019 and 2023 governorship elections and did not provide effective leadership during key contests in the state.

APC chieftain Mallam Nasiru Musa defended the suspension, describing it as necessary to restore discipline and protect party cohesion.

“Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho’s activities have become cancerous to the party. For eight years, he served himself and his family while the people suffered neglect and poor representation,” he said.

“We can no longer accommodate a senator who failed the people and is desperate to pull down the house after the party rejected his third-term ambition.”

The suspension comes amid rising internal friction within the APC in Kogi East over leadership and succession politics.

As of press time, Senator Echocho had not responded to the suspension.
