Mutfwang Unveils ₦914bn ‘Budget of Sustainability 2.0’ to Drive Plateau’s Growth

The Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, on Wednesday presented a ₦914.8 billion budget proposal for the 2026 fiscal year to the state House of Assembly for consideration and approval.

Tagged “Budget of Consolidation and Sustainability 2.0,” the proposal comprises ₦341 billion (37.32%) for recurrent expenditure and ₦573 billion (62.68%) for capital expenditure.

Presenting the appropriation bill, Governor Mutfwang said the budget was designed to serve the people of Plateau State sincerely and without compromise, focusing on projects and programmes that would improve the quality of life of citizens.

“Having highlighted the 2025 performance, it is my singular honour and privilege to present to this Honourable House the 2026 Medium Term Expenditure Framework/Fiscal Strategy Paper (MTEF/FSP) alongside the proposed budget estimate for your consideration and approval,” he said.

Mutfwang explained that the total budget of ₦914,863,422,871 would be funded through Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), Plateau’s share of the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), aids, grants, and the Capital Development Fund (CDF).

The governor said the 2026 budget reflects a ₦306 billion increase from the ₦471 billion approved for 2025, underscoring his administration’s commitment to scaling up investments in key sectors.

He listed priority areas to include agriculture and rural development, mining and mineral resources, trade and investment, tourism, health, education, and infrastructure development.

Mutfwang reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a peaceful and prosperous Plateau through its three-pillar policy framework of peace, security, and good governance; sustainable economic rebirth; and physical infrastructure development.

According to the budget breakdown, sectoral allocations include administration (₦125 billion), economic (₦232 billion), law and justice (₦21 billion), and social services (₦119 billion).

The governor urged the Assembly to expedite passage of the budget to enable early implementation in 2026, expressing appreciation for the legislature’s continued support and partnership in driving the state’s development agenda.

Responding, Speaker of the House, Daniel Naalong, commended the governor for his commitment to transparency and growth, assuring him of the Assembly’s readiness to ensure speedy passage of the bill.

In 2024, Mutfwang had presented a ₦471 billion budget for the 2025 fiscal year, with ₦201.5 billion allocated for recurrent expenditure and ₦258.8 billion for capital projects, reflecting his administration’s focus on inclusive growth and development.
