North-Central APC Blasts Plateau Leaders Over Mutfwang Defection Snub

The North-Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum has dismissed a resolution by Plateau State party leaders opposing the possible defection of Governor Caleb Mutfwang from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Forum, which comprises APC stakeholders across North-Central states, accused those resisting Mutfwang’s entry of acting out of self-interest rather than for the benefit of the party.

The Plateau APC leaders had, at a stakeholders’ meeting in Jos on October 17, 2025, unanimously passed a motion moved by former Deputy National Secretary Festus Fuanter opposing the governor’s defection.

Responding, the North-Central APC Forum said many of those present at the meeting were not genuine party stakeholders, noting that several had failed to deliver their polling units during the 2023 general elections and were now lobbying for federal appointments.

“It is not just about rejecting Governor Caleb Mutfwang. The real issue is who can win the governorship seat for the party? Among those so-called stakeholders, only a few are genuine and capable,” the statement read. The Forum also cited that the APC governorship running mate in Plateau during the 2023 elections lost both his polling unit and ward to the PDP but was among those opposing Mutfwang’s defection.

The Forum reaffirmed its call for Mutfwang to join the APC, describing the PDP as a “drowning party” and emphasizing that the move would strengthen the party in Plateau ahead of future elections.

It also suggested that appointments and party rewards should be tied to electoral performance rather than personal interests. “Those rushing to Abuja for federal appointments should first present their polling unit results. We promise President Bola Tinubu that after the next election, we will publish the results from each polling unit so he will know who is who,” the statement added.

The North-Central APC Forum concluded by reiterating that influential figures in the Presidential Villa were backing efforts to persuade Mutfwang to defect, stressing that the campaign for his entry into the APC would continue in the interest of Plateau State and the party.
