NAF Warns Personnel Against Smuggling, Links Illicit Trade to Terror Funding

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has urged its personnel to resist involvement in cross-border smuggling, warning that the practice undermines national security and weakens the economy.

In a statement posted on its official X account on Friday, October 3, 2025, the Service said the message was reinforced through a sensitization lecture at NAF Base Port Harcourt.

Representing the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, the Air Provost Marshal, Air Vice Marshal Jibrin Usman, restated the Service’s zero-tolerance policy on misconduct and indiscipline.

The lecture, themed “The Effects of Cross-Border Smuggling and Its Impact on National Security and the Image of the NAF,” examined how illegal activities such as oil bunkering, arms trafficking, and contraband trade sustain criminal groups and finance terrorism.

AVM Usman stressed that any officer found aiding smugglers would be betraying the Service and its values, urging personnel in the Niger Delta and across Nigeria to remain vigilant and uphold professionalism.

The campaign aligns with one of the CAS’s command philosophy pillars, “Deliberate Training and Mission-Oriented Force Development.”

The exercise concluded with a symbolic tree planting, underscoring NAF’s dual commitment to national security and environmental protection.
