Nasarawa State Police Confirm Brutal Killing of Polytechnic Student in Lodge

The Nasarawa State Police Command has confirmed the brutal killing of a part-time student of the Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa (FPN), Ibrahim Matthew, following a violent altercation with a friend.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, disclosed that the tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday at a residence behind ECWA Peace College, Shagari Road, Nasarawa.

According to the police, the report of the incident was lodged at the Nasarawa Division at about 2:00 a.m. by a female resident of the lodge, Mercy Bassey.

“The report indicated that a fight had broken out between one of her tenants and his friend, leading to a violent confrontation,” the statement read in part.

Swift police intervention led to the arrest of the suspect, identified as John Gambo, an ND2 student from the Banking and Finance Department of the same institution.

During interrogation, Gambo reportedly confessed to the crime, admitting that he attacked the deceased with both an axe and a knife.

The police have recovered both weapons as evidence.

The Commissioner of Police has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.
