The Nigerian Bar Association has strongly criticized the reported sexual assault and public humiliation of women during a cultural festival in Ozoro, Delta State, describing the episode as a “national disgrace” and an affront to the rule of law.
The association, in a statement released on Saturday, March 21, 2026, said the conduct seen in widely shared videos was indefensible, unlawful and incompatible with any acceptable standard of human behavior, stressing that culture cannot be invoked to excuse abuse.
The reaction follows public anger over incidents linked to the “Alue-Do” festival held on Thursday, March 19, 2026, in Isoko North Local Government Area, where women were allegedly pursued, stripped and assaulted by groups of young men.
Calling for decisive action, the NBA urged law enforcement agencies to identify those involved and ensure they face prosecution without delay.

It emphasized the need for a credible and open investigation, warning that accountability is essential to maintaining confidence in the justice system.
The footage has drawn condemnation from across the country, with advocacy groups and concerned citizens demanding consequences for those responsible and greater safeguards for women, particularly during public events.
Delta State authorities have also spoken against the incident, while the police say suspects have been taken into custody as inquiries continue.
The NBA reaffirmed that acts of sexual violence constitute serious criminal offenses under Nigerian law and must be treated as such in every circumstance, insisting that the protection of women’s dignity and safety cannot be compromised.
