Two men have died following a fiery collision between a gas-laden tanker and a heavy-duty truck along the Lekki–Epe Expressway in Lagos, an incident that also left a trail of destruction across nearby commercial properties.
The crash occurred in the early hours of Saturday, March 21, 2026, around the Tera Ahmeed bus stop area in Sangotedo, prompting an emergency mobilisation by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.
Confirming the development, the agency’s Controller General, Margaret Adeseye, said multiple fire crews were dispatched from stations across the Lekki-Epe axis to contain what quickly escalated into a large inferno.
Initial accounts indicate that a moving tipper truck struck a gas tanker positioned on the roadway, leading to a violent ignition.
The resulting fire spread rapidly, consuming nearby structures, including storage facilities and several roadside businesses.

Firefighters eventually brought the situation under control after an intensive operation, successfully shielding a nearby fuel station and other high-risk assets from being caught in the blaze.
Emergency responders later documented extensive damage within the vicinity, with several vehicles found burnt within affected premises.
Two occupants of the tipper truck lost their lives in the incident, while the tanker driver was rescued without injuries.
Authorities have since cleared the accident scene, allowing vehicular movement to resume along the expressway after hours of disruption.
The fire service reiterated the need for stricter adherence to road safety practices, particularly among operators of articulated vehicles, warning that negligence on busy highways continues to pose serious risks to lives and property.
