The Federal Government on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, rejected claims that Nigeria is nearing collapse, saying security operations and economic reforms are yielding results.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, stated this in Abuja at the 81st General Assembly and 23rd Annual General Meeting of the Broadcasting Organization of Nigeria, dismissing such claims as alarmist.
He said intensified military operations, backed by improved intelligence, have disrupted banditry and insurgency, particularly in the North, reducing large-scale territorial control and strengthening nationwide response systems.

On the economy, Idris cited improving foreign reserves and broader revenue from oil and non-oil sectors, attributing the trend to ongoing fiscal reforms.
He also referenced Nigeria’s Frontier Market reclassification by FTSE Russell as a sign of renewed investor confidence, driven by gains in forex liquidity and market transparency.
The minister urged broadcasters to uphold professionalism and avoid divisive narratives ahead of the election cycle, reaffirming the government’s commitment to press freedom and collaboration to counter misinformation.
