The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, has projected a mix of haze and sunshine across the country from Wednesday the 7th of January to Friday, the 9th of January, 2026, signalling varying weather conditions in different regions.
In its weather outlook released on Tuesday, the 6th of January, in Abuja, the agency indicated that the northern region will largely experience sunny and hazy conditions throughout the forecast period.
According to the outlook, these conditions are expected to persist across the region over the three days.
For the southern part of the country, NiMet forecast generally sunny weather with patches of clouds.
However, the agency noted the likelihood of isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall later in the day over parts of Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states.
Looking ahead to Thursday, the 8th of January, NiMet said sunny and hazy skies are anticipated over the northern and central regions during the forecast period. The southern region, it added, is expected to experience sunny conditions with patches of clouds.
The agency further stated that thunderstorms with light rains may occur in the morning hours over parts of Ogun, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross Rivers states.
“According to NiMet, later in the day, thunderstorms are expected over parts of Ondo, Ogun, Imo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers and Bayelsa states,” it said.

For Friday, the 9th of January, the agency predicted sunny and hazy skies over the northern region during the morning, with dust haze expected to intensify in the afternoon and evening hours. It also forecast sunny and hazy conditions over the central region throughout the day.
In the southern region, NiMet envisaged cloudy skies with sunny intervals in the morning, alongside chances of isolated thunderstorms and light rainfall over parts of Anambra, Imo, Abia, Edo, Bayelsa, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers states.
The agency warned that dust particles remain in suspension over the North Central region, advising members of the public to take necessary precautions. It specifically urged individuals with asthma and other respiratory conditions to be mindful of the prevailing weather situation.
NiMet also called on airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports and flight documentation from the agency to ensure effective planning and safe operations.
