The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has extended its Special Passport Intervention Exercise in the United Kingdom to October 3, 2026, following high demand for passport services.
The exercise, which began on September 7 and was initially due to end on September 19, was extended by two weeks, the NIS said on Friday, September 11.
The Service said 1,477 Nigerians were processed and enrolled within the first four days, with passports for more than half already produced and dispatched.
NIS spokesman, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, said the exercise had progressed despite operational challenges at its commencement.
The extension, approved under the directive of Interior Minister, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, is aimed at giving more eligible applicants access to the service.

Applicants must book appointments through the designated Nigeria High Commission platform and complete the application and payment processes online.
They are required to present their application forms, payment receipts, appointment slips, existing passports where applicable and the prescribed return envelope.
The NIS said the process is fully automated and cashless, with fees fixed at $162 for a five-year passport and $242 for a 10-year booklet. It warned that no additional payment is required.
The intervention initially faced logistical difficulties, including a venue change for the London operation, but the Service said processing subsequently stabilized.
The Nigeria High Commission’s published schedule lists London through October 3, while Manchester is scheduled through September 21, followed by intervention sessions in Cardiff and Aberdeen.
The NIS advised applicants to rely on official NIS and High Commission channels for updates on appointments and locations.
