Vice-President Kashim Shettima will represent President Bola Tinubu at the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi, India, scheduled for this weekend.
Shettima’s spokesperson, Stanley Nkwocha, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, saying the Vice-President would join leaders from BRICS member and partner countries, alongside other invited dignitaries, for plenary and high-level sessions focused on global economic growth, multilateral cooperation and shared development priorities.
According to Nkwocha, Shettima is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with leaders and senior officials from participating countries.
The discussions will focus on opportunities for deeper economic and diplomatic cooperation between Nigeria and other BRICS member and partner countries.

“The engagement will provide Nigeria with another platform to strengthen partnerships in trade and investment, energy, agriculture, solid minerals, technology, and innovation, while promoting greater cooperation among countries of the Global South,” the statement said.
Nigeria became a BRICS partner country in January 2025, joining other partner nations seeking closer engagement with the economic bloc.
The 18th BRICS summit is themed, “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.”
Nkwocha said the summit would provide Nigeria with an opportunity to deepen South-South cooperation and engage some of the world’s largest emerging economies on trade, investment, development finance and reforms to global governance institutions.
He added that Shettima would use the engagements to advance Nigeria’s economic and diplomatic interests while exploring opportunities for stronger partnerships across key sectors.
The Vice-President is expected to return to Nigeria after participating in the summit.
