President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday, August 27, 2026, swore in Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan as the new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF).
The brief ceremony at the State House, Abuja, followed the retirement of Didi Esther Walson-Jack after she attained the statutory retirement age of 60.
Tinubu announced Enitan’s appointment on August 19, with effect from August 27. Before his elevation, Enitan was the most senior Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service, having spent seven years and seven months at the rank.
His previous postings included the Ministry of Police Affairs, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, the Office of the Vice President and the Federal Ministry of Education, where he served before his appointment.

An indigene of Osun State, Enitan was born on December 12, 1966. He earned a BSc in Finance and Banking from the University of Lagos in 1988 and an MSc in Public Policy Analysis from Nasarawa State University, Lafia, in 2015.
Walson-Jack assumed office on August 14, 2024, succeeding Folasade Yemi-Esan.
Upon appointing Enitan, Tinubu charged him to consolidate civil service reforms, deepen professionalism and efficiency, and strengthen accountability and responsiveness across the system.
The President also tasked him with leading a merit-driven and innovative civil service capable of advancing the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Enitan’s swearing-in marks a fresh leadership phase for Nigeria’s federal civil service as the government pursues improvements in public administration and service delivery.
