Nollywood actress and filmmaker Nkechi Blessing Sunday has shelved the release of her movie, Egusi Ogbono, following the death of actor Chijioke Temidayo Nwokafor, popularly known as Cjay.
The film was scheduled for release at 5pm on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, but Nkechi called off the launch after Cjay was confirmed dead at a hospital.
The actress announced his death in an emotional Instagram video after visiting the hospital. Visibly distraught, she mourned the actor and disclosed that the movie would no longer be released as planned.
“Cjay, this was never the plan,” she wrote.

Nkechi did not disclose the cause of death.
Cjay, who hailed from Awka, Anambra State, and was based in Lagos, began his professional acting career in 2021. He featured in productions including Larry Cold, Mum Overnight, A Day To My Wedding, The Lies She Tell and What Time Left.
His death came on the day Egusi Ogbono was scheduled for release, turning the planned launch into a period of mourning.
No new release date had been announced for the movie as of Wednesday.
Funeral arrangements and further details surrounding Cjay’s death were also yet to be disclosed.
