Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, and former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, on Sunday, May 3, met behind closed doors with top figures of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Abuja, as opposition leaders intensify consultations ahead of the 2027 elections.
The meeting was held at the Guzape residence of the party’s National Leader, Seriake Dickson, and is viewed as part of broader efforts to recalibrate alliances within Nigeria’s opposition space.
Both leaders arrived at about 5:18 p.m., where they were welcomed by supporters associated with the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement.
The crowd chanted “O-K is okay” as Obi and Kwankwaso were escorted into the premises.

The engagement came shortly after Obi announced his resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing internal tensions, divisions, and what he described as a toxic political environment within the party.
The development underscores growing political manoeuvring among opposition figures seeking to forge a viable coalition capable of challenging the ruling party in 2027.
Attempts to build a united opposition platform, particularly through the ADC, have recently encountered setbacks due to internal disputes and high-profile defections.
With the emergence of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as a potential platform, analysts say opposition leaders may be exploring new pathways to consolidate support and strengthen their political positioning outside existing party frameworks.
