Okpebholo Recalls Casting Out Demons During Teenage Years

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has recalled his early involvement in spiritual activities, saying he began “casting out demons” when he was about 17 years old.

Okpebholo made the disclosure during a church service at The Votage Church, where he reflected on his experiences as a teenager and discussed issues surrounding insecurity and cultism.

Addressing young worshippers during the service, the governor said seeing them in church reminded him of his own experiences as a young man.

“When I see young ones standing in the presence of God, I remember at 17, 18, I had also started casting out demons,” Okpebholo said.

The governor said his experiences growing up had given him a personal understanding of some of the challenges confronting young people, particularly insecurity and cult-related activities.

“Fighting insecurity, especially cultism, is not a new thing to me. It is something that has been happening,” he added.

Okpebholo also spoke about the influence of the late Archbishop Benson Idahosa on his spiritual background.

The governor’s visit was welcomed by the church’s lead pastor, who described the occasion as an opportunity to appreciate Okpebholo’s commitment to the people and pray for the progress of Edo State.

The pastor also emphasised the importance of leaders seeking spiritual guidance and encouraged continued efforts towards peace and development across the state.

In a statement issued after the service, The Votage Church said it was honoured to host the governor, adding that prayers were offered for the peace, progress and prosperity of Edo State.

Okpebholo’s remarks formed part of his broader reflection on his youth, faith and experiences with issues he said continue to affect young people in Edo State.
