Oluyede Orders Relentless Crackdown On Bandits In North-West

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, has issued a firm directive to troops under Operation Fansan Yamma to intensify and sustain offensive operations against bandits and other criminal elements across Nigeria’s North-West region.

During an operational visit to the Theatre Command Headquarters in Gusau, Zamfara State, the defence chief stressed that restoring security across the country remains a non-negotiable priority.

Addressing troops on the ground, Oluyede underscored the urgency of dismantling criminal networks that have continued to terrorise communities, insisting that military personnel must remain unwavering in their mission.

“The safety of our citizens rests on our shoulders. You must remain resolute and go after these criminals until they are eliminated. We must make Nigeria safe at all costs,” he charged.

The directive was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, who noted that the CDS also commended troops for their resilience and sacrifices in ongoing operations.

Oluyede further highlighted the importance of discipline and professionalism, urging sustained pressure on criminal groups while assuring personnel of improved welfare, enhanced training, and better operational equipment.

He also revealed ongoing efforts to boost air support and strengthen coordination among various operational theatres to improve effectiveness in the fight against insecurity.

As part of his visit, the CDS paid a courtesy call on Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, where he acknowledged the state government’s support for military operations and called for deeper collaboration, particularly in intelligence sharing.

In his response, Governor Lawal praised the Armed Forces for their dedication, noting that their efforts remain crucial to restoring peace and stability in Zamfara and the wider North-West.

The visit featured operational briefings, direct engagement with troops, and an on-the-ground assessment of deployments, as the military ramps up efforts to combat banditry in the region.

The North-West has remained a major security hotspot for years, plagued by banditry, kidnappings, and attacks on rural communities, leading to widespread displacement.

Operation Fansan Yamma is part of ongoing coordinated military offensives aimed at reclaiming affected areas and restoring order.

Oluyede’s latest engagement signals renewed momentum in the military’s push to degrade criminal networks, boost troop morale, and accelerate efforts to stabilise the troubled region.
