Osun Monarchs Commend Tinubu, Oyetola Over Road Project Approval

Traditional rulers across Osun West Senatorial District have expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, following approval for the reconstruction of the 90.9-kilometre Osogbo–Iwo–Ibadan Road.

The monarchs described the project as a major development milestone expected to stimulate economic growth, improve transport efficiency, and boost social and commercial activities in communities along the route.

Their commendation was contained in a letter dated Monday and addressed to President Tinubu.

The letter was formally delivered to Oyetola at his country residence in Iragbiji, Osun State, for onward transmission to the President.

The delegation of traditional rulers was led by the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdurasheed Adewale Akanbi, who praised the President for approving what they termed a critical infrastructure project.

According to them, the road serves as a key economic corridor linking Osun and Oyo states but has long been in a poor state, causing hardship for commuters, traders, farmers, students, and transport operators.

“This monumental intervention stands as a bold testament to your administration’s unwavering commitment to infrastructural renewal, economic revitalisation, and national integration.

The road, which serves as a major economic corridor connecting Osun State to Oyo State and other parts of the South-West, has for many years posed untold hardship to commuters, traders, students, farmers, transporters, and other road users due to its deplorable condition.

Your timely approval of this strategic project has therefore rekindled hope in the hearts of our people and further reinforced public confidence in your Renewed Hope Agenda.

We are particularly delighted that this laudable development will not only ease transportation and improve inter-state commerce, but will also stimulate socio-economic growth, enhance security, and open up rural communities within the axis to greater opportunities,” the monarchs stated in the letter.

The traditional rulers further noted that the intervention would significantly improve movement of goods and services, shorten travel time, strengthen security, and enhance commercial interaction across the South-West region.

They added that the project would be remembered as a lasting legacy of the Tinubu administration.

“The people of Osun West regard this gesture as a demonstration of responsive and inclusive governance.

We equally commend Your Excellency for prioritising infrastructure that directly impacts the well-being of the people.

This remarkable project will undoubtedly boost economic activities, facilitate easier movement of goods and services, reduce travel time, and strengthen commercial and social interactions among communities within the South-West region.

It is a legacy intervention that will continue to benefit present and future generations,” the monarchs added.

They also commended Oyetola for his role in securing approval for the project, recalling that he had earlier pledged to pursue the road’s reconstruction while representing President Tinubu at the coronation of the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Adesuyi Clement Haastrup, Ajimoko III, in May 2025.

According to them, the fulfilment of that promise reflects his commitment to the development of Osun State and the welfare of its people.

The monarchs concluded by praying for President Tinubu, asking for divine wisdom, strength, and good health to continue leading the country.

Signatories to the letter included the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdurasheed Adewale Akanbi; the Akire of Ikire-Ile, Oba Azeez Olatunbosun Bamiji; the Olu of Ile-Ogbo, Oba Abeeblahi Adetoyese Agbajelola; the Olupo of Oluponna, Oba Rafiu Oyekanmi Mosobalaje; along with several other traditional rulers from communities across Osun West Senatorial District.
