Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has condemned a controversial remark attributed to Senator Francis Fadahunsi ahead of Saturday’s Osun governorship election, warning that such rhetoric could inflame political tensions.
Obi, in a statement on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, urged Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East, to withdraw the remark and apologize to Osun residents.
The controversy followed a viral video in which Fadahunsi was reported to have said “kill Accord” while addressing supporters in Ilesa ahead of the August 15 poll. Critics interpreted the statement as a threat against Accord Party members.
Fadahunsi later denied advocating violence, saying he meant defeating Accord through the ballot.

The Osun State Police Command nevertheless summoned the senator on Wednesday, August 12, for clarification over the video, citing concerns about its potentially threatening and inflammatory content.
Obi said political leaders should promote peace and uphold democratic values, urging parties, candidates and supporters to moderate their language and avoid actions capable of escalating tensions.
He also called on security agencies to monitor inflammatory statements and protect voters, electoral officials and other stakeholders.
The controversy comes amid heightened political tension in Osun, with rival camps trading allegations of violence and intimidation ahead of the poll.
Obi urged residents to remain calm, reject violence and determine the next governor through their votes on Saturday.
