The Nigeria Police Force on Friday stepped up security operations in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, with officers conducting a route march ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
The exercise involved both armed and unarmed personnel who moved through major roads and other parts of the city, signalling the preparedness of the police to maintain security throughout the electoral process.
The march was also aimed at boosting public confidence and assuring residents of the presence and readiness of security agencies to prevent disorder before, during and after the election.
The development came as political activities and preparations for the poll intensified across the state, with security personnel positioned at strategic locations.

Also on Friday, the Independent National Electoral Commission began distributing non-sensitive electoral materials at its Osogbo Local Government Area office along Ilobu Road.
Voters across the state are expected to cast their ballots on Saturday to choose the next governor, with heightened security measures in place as the election draws closer.
