The Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, has dismissed reports claiming that the Assembly approved a letter authorising rotational chairmanship among traditional rulers in the state.
In a statement released on Monday by his Chief Press Secretary, Olamide Tiamiyu, Egbedun said a Facebook account operating under the name “Ashiwaju Omo Yoruba” had falsely claimed that the Assembly had received such a letter. He stressed that no such letter was received, authorised, or presented to the House or its Committee on Chieftaincy Matters.
“The Office of the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly unequivocally dismisses as false and misleading the publication circulated by a pseudo Facebook page,” Egbedun said. He described the report as “entirely fabricated” and intended to mislead the public, provoke tension, and undermine the Assembly’s credibility.
Egbedun urged members of the public to disregard the post and rely only on statements issued through official channels of the Osun State House of Assembly. He also condemned attempts to exploit sensitive traditional and cultural issues for ulterior motives.

The clarification comes shortly after the inauguration of the reconstituted Oyo State Council of Obas, which introduced rotational chairmanship among its leading monarchs. The move, overseen by Governor Seyi Makinde on January 15, saw the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, Arusa I, emerge as the inaugural chairman of the council for a two-year term.
The development in Oyo State has reportedly sparked discussions in neighbouring states, but Egbedun reiterated that no such rotation policy exists in Osun and that the Assembly conducts its affairs strictly according to constitutional and legislative procedures.
