Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has called for stronger collaboration among security agencies, electoral bodies and political actors as he formally declared open a two-day National Security Summit in Umuahia.
The summit, organised for participants of the Federal and States Security Administrators (FASA), is being held at the International Conference Centre in the Abia State capital. Governor Otti made the announcement on Friday via his official X (formerly Twitter) account.
Describing the gathering as a vital platform for dialogue and coordination, Otti said the summit would enable stakeholders to share experiences, examine pressing security challenges and develop practical strategies to strengthen Nigeria’s collective security framework.
“Safeguarding our nation is a shared responsibility,” the governor stated, emphasising that sustainable development in infrastructure, industry, investment and job creation depends on a secure and predictable environment.
He stressed the need for synergy between security agencies, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), political actors and other relevant institutions to ensure credible elections, curb thuggery and promote peace and stability nationwide.
The governor also acknowledged the presence and representation of key federal officials at the event. He thanked the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, who was represented by the Chairman of FASA and Permanent Secretary, Special Services, Office of the Presidency.

He further recognised the Office of the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, represented by his Special Adviser on Governance and Sub-national Matters, Mr. A.B. Okuro.
Otti expressed appreciation to senior government officials and distinguished guests from across the country whose participation enriched the deliberations.
Highlighting his administration’s priorities, the governor noted that Abia’s reform agenda is focused on rebuilding public confidence, restoring critical infrastructure, revitalising the economy and strengthening institutions.
“None of these can be achieved without a stable security architecture,” he said, urging sustained collaboration and trust among stakeholders to create an environment that fosters prosperity and national progress.
The summit comes amid ongoing national conversations about security coordination, electoral integrity and institutional reforms ahead of future political cycles.
