Outrage in Abia as Viral Video Alleges Attempted Sexual Abuse of Child

Outrage and concern have spread across Abia State following the circulation of a Facebook video alleging an attempted sexual abuse of a minor in Umuahia.

The video, posted on Monday by a Facebook user identified as Sandy of Da Most High, accused an unnamed man of attempting to sexually assault a nine-year-old girl and three of her cousins in Umuerim Nsirim, Umuahia.

According to the post, the alleged incident occurred on the night of the child’s father’s burial, deepening the emotional trauma surrounding the claim.

The poster further alleged that the suspect is a teacher at a private school in Aba, a claim that has heightened anxiety among parents and residents.

She said the child later narrated the incident to family members, prompting the decision to make the allegation public as a warning to others and to draw the attention of authorities.

The video, which has since gone viral, shows the child recounting the alleged experience. In keeping with ethical journalism standards and child protection laws, the minor’s identity is being safeguarded, and her face has been censored to protect her privacy and dignity.

As of the time of reporting, there has been no official statement from the Abia State Police Command, and no arrest has been confirmed. The allegations remain unverified, and authorities are yet to publicly clarify whether investigations have commenced.

Child rights advocates have stressed the need for a prompt and thorough investigation, noting that allegations involving minors require urgent attention while ensuring the child’s safety, emotional wellbeing, and access to appropriate support.

The incident has renewed public conversations around child protection, community vigilance, and accountability, as residents await an official response from relevant security agencies.
